Anglo-Japanese Alliance

An alliance between Britain and Japan negotiated by Consul-General Claude MacDonald and then signed in London by the British foreign secretary Lord Lansdowne and Japanese diplomat Hayashi Tadasu.

This alliance ended the British policy of "Splendid Isolation" was there to protect both of these Great Powers against their mutual adversary, Russia.

While she was there the British and the Japanese ratified their alliance treaty, the first alliance that Britain had made in a significant time. This reduced the number of ships that were needed in the Far East, so she was recalled to Britain.
