Pretoria Convention

Aug 03, 1881

Following the crushing Boer victories the British were forced to give up their attempt to annex the Transvaal. This was the first time that the British had been forced to accept a peace treaty as anything other than the victor since the American War of independence. Transvaal was to have it's independence was guaranteed, and had its borders set.
