German cruisers fire on a minesweeper patrolling the sea off Yarmouth in the hope that this will lure out a portion of the Grand Fleet. Admiral Beatty's is contacted and heads south with his battlecruisers, not knowing that there was a flotilla of Battleships waiting for them. But by the time that they get to Yarmouth the German fleet had already headed back to Germany, with one of its ships hitting one of their own mines as it approached Wilhelmshaven. Admiral Hipper was awarded an Iron Cross for this action, but he refused to wear it as he felt that little had been accomplished.
