Red Sea Ports Under Arab Control

The Battle of Wadi Musa

Oct 23, 1917

The Ottomans send a force to attack the Arab force camped at Wadi Musa. Before the Ottomans reached the Wadi, they are intercepted by 700 Arab troops under the command of Maulood Mukhlis. Four hundred Ottomans were killed and 300 were captured.

Faisal Contacts General Djemal Pasha

Dec 1917

Faisal contacts General Djemal Pasha and declares his willingness to defect to the Ottoman side if they would give him an empire to rule. He told them that the Sykes–Picot agreement had disillusioned him in the Allies and he now wanted to work with his fellow Muslims. However, the Three Pashas were unwilling to give part of the Ottoman Empire to Faisal. This kept him loyal to his father for long enough for him to realise that the Ottomans were just trying to divide and conquer the Hashemite forces.
