storming of Sikandar Bagh

The british are ambushed at Sikandar Bagh, but manage to storm the fortifications

While passing the Sikandar Bagh the British force was stopped in its tracks by a sudden barrage coming from inside. The British Horse Artillery under Blunt charged out under enemy fire into an open space. The six guns opened fire.

Sappers and miners demolished part of the earth banks around the Sikandar Bagh which allowing two 18-pounder heavy guns of Travers's battery of the Artillery Brigade to be brought up out of the lane. It took half an hour of bombardment to open a hole into the stronghold, but eve that was only big enough for one man to get through at a time.

The 93rd Highlands rushed the hole, and 14 of them managed to get inside. While this was happening the rebels were trying to close the main gate, but Subadar Mukarab Khan pushed his arm into it stopping them. The Highlanders came around behind them and the rebels were pushed back in hand to hand combat and eventually all of them were killed.
