Bibighar massacre

The surviving women and children from the Satichura Ghat massacre are killed

The 200 surviving women and children that had been taken prisoner after the Siege of Cawnpore are murdered. When they discovered what was happening they tried to barricade themselves inside the house where they were being held.

The rebels pushed their muskets through holes in the boarded up windows and started firing. The squad that was supposed to fire next were so disturbed that they fired into the air instead, and refused to kill any more women and children, but that did not stop the massacre.

The woman who had been in charge of the prison, Begum Hussaini Khanum, was furious at the Sepoys refusal to murder helpless women and children. She hired butchers to murder prisoners with meat cleavers. A few survived by hiding under the corpses of the other murdered prisoners.
