The Germans launched an artillery bombardment from 160 heavy guns on the outer ring of forts which protected the city of Antwerp. They intend to smash the two Waelhem and Wavre Ste Catherine forts in order to create a hole in the ring of forts before moving onto the inner ring of forts.
